The Life of Brian

I was born in the small, but not terribly small, town of Franklin, Tennessee. I grew up there with my mother and brother and later my stepfather. My mother and father were divorced when I was fairly young and my father moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky and has lived there ever since with my stepmother and other brother. I am the eldest of the three.

I grew up in Franklin spending a few weekends a month in Kentucky and for the most part had an ideal childhood. I went through grade school no problem and graduated about 64th out of 400 plus students.
I have since been to three colleges and am about to start at my fourth. I am a Fine Arts major with an emphasis on illustration and a love (and possibly a minor) in sculpture. The colleges that I have been to are: Western Kentucky University, Middle Tennessee State University, and O'more College of Art and Design. I am currently attending Watkins College of Art and Design.

When I was younger I always wanted to be a veterinarian. From the time that I found out that there were doctors that only worked with animals that was what I was going to be. When I was twelve I started my first of four summers doing volunteer work at a vet clinic in Bowling Green. My dad was good friends with the vet because animals, especially dogs, have a strong attraction to his house for some reason and my step mom has a soft heart when it comes to animals. I think that they single handedly helped him buy his house. Anyway, after my fourth summer there I wasn't so sure veterinary medicine was for me.

I prepared for college, nonetheless, and exited with a large science background even though I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do.

It was my parents that pointed me in the direction of art. They wanted me to do something that I enjoyed above all else. I have always been good at art and when I was young it was my favorite hobby, but, it was never something that I thought of as a career.

Once I started college and took a few art classes I knew that it was the right choice. It all came naturally to me. It was all the other crap that I didn't want to take. Since I began college I have failed many classes (which was odd to everyone because I made, maybe, a few D's in high school, and certainly no F's). I became very disillusioned with the college system. I could pass any class with very little effort if I just attend it regularly. In fact, the only classes that I failed were ones that I just got sick of and quit going to. I also found that it was very easy to talk yourself into just about any grade you want. The only classes I ever put forth any effort in were my art classes and I found myself even getting sick of doing that for a grade. So I quit.

That was a year and a half ago. For the last four years I worked at a restaurant in downtown Franklin called 4th & Main. I spent the last two years managing and had numerous tasks. I really enjoyed bar tending and serving and all of my great customers, but, I felt that it was time to go back to school and learn to do what I really want to do for a living.
